Padalecki explained that she and her friend Danneel Ackles had always joked about wanting to be a part of the show's final season.

Upon finding out, she eagerly accepted the role, considering the show to be a significant part of her life. To prepare for her return, Padalecki read old scripts and relied on her previous acting notes from her time at Tisch, rather than watching old episodes, as she did not want to mimic her previous performance.
She also sought help from Jared, who helped her rehearse and run lines together. Padalecki revealed that she would be filming scenes with Danneel, which came as a pleasant surprise. Despite their close proximity in real life, they rarely get the chance to spend time together due to their kids' activities.
Thus, working together on the show was a special treat for both of them. As for her character, Padalecki assured fans that they would see familiar aspects of Ruby, but also witness her react to new situations and show different sides of her personality.
She emphasized that the distinctions between angels and demons, as portrayed on the show, are not as clear-cut as they may seem, as they are all navigating their own paths.
Regarding her wardrobe and makeup for the role, Padalecki mentioned that it felt like coming home. She also noted that the episode would feature a modernized version of Ruby, reflecting the changes that have occurred in the world since her character's last appearance.
